Road Trip to These Top Destinations in Michigan!

Warming temperatures and longer days all signal one thing: summer has arrived in Gull Lake, Michigan! Whether you’re planning a trip for the family while the kids are out for the summer or you’re looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life with your significant other, there is no better vacation than a road trip!

To help you plan, here’s a look at some of the best destinations around Michigan:

Known for its dramatic multicolored cliffs, the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is located on the south shore of Lake Superior in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. While there, gaze upon the Miners Castle and Chapel Rock sandstone formations, explore the pristine beaches and hike the nearly 100 miles of trails. Oh, and don’t forget your kayak to enjoy some time in the gorgeous water.

No matter what you’re interested in – sunny beaches, sand dunes, forests, lakes, farmsteads or a historic maritime village – the Sleeping Bear Dunes offers something for everyone! Walk or bike the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail, explore Port Oneida, take a trek up the dune climb and more.

Surrounded by Lake Superior, Isle Royale is an isolated island far from civilization. Head out for a weekend of solitude and adventure by land or water – hiking, boating, kayaking, canoeing, scuba diving and more.

Nestled along the shores of Little Traverse Bay of Lake Michigan, the city of Petoskey is as rich in history as it is in breathtaking views. Explore the gorgeous Victorian architecture, the historic communities of Harbor Springs and Charlevoix or walk the beautiful beaches and take in the natural beauty.

From biking and hiking to beaches, fishing and golf, Traverse City is a great destination for those who love the outdoors. While abounding in outdoor activities, there are ways to enjoy the breathtaking scenery from afar: grab a farm-to-table meal at a local eatery, sip a cup of coffee at a sidewalk café or indulge in a glass of wine or pint of beer at a local winery or brewery. For wine connoisseurs and foodies, head out to Traverse City on June 9th to enjoy the Leland Wine and Food Festival. The event features tastings of local award-winning wines from 16 Leelanau Peninsula wineries and one local brewery as well as delicious samples from local restaurants and vendors.

Deemed the jewel of the Great Lakes, Mackinac Island is a destination to remember. Tour the island by land (carriage rides) or water (boat/sailboat tours), shop the local boutiques, witness fudge making at the local fudge shop, experience fine dining at one of the local eateries or take in the sunset over the beautiful vistas. No matter what you choose, the memories made on Mackinac Island will last a lifetime.

GULL LAKE!!

Don’t forget about your own hometown lake! Enjoy a little staycation to your local marina or public access. Stop by the great local restaurants to pack a meal or two and head out on the water! Gull Lake offers everything you may want for a great day on the lake: boat rentals, tubing, skiing, fishing, kayaking and more!

While these are some of our favorite destinations, they aren’t the only places worth visiting in Michigan over the summer! In fact, here are a couple more: Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, Tahquamenon Falls State Park, Nichols Arboretum, Port Austin – the Turnip Rock, Chelsea in Washtenaw County and Frankenmuth.
